Less than a month after it released a white paper advocating multi-layered security for SMBs, GFI Software has added another layer of protection to its GFI Cloud hosted IT security and management platform. Appropriately called Web Protection, this new service allows IT managers to reduce exposure to Web-based security risks and productivity loss through management of Internet access and use on company machines — whether in-house or remote.
The situation online is hostile right now, especially for smaller businesses. Not only do companies have to worry about local threats from cybercriminals that are getting better at exploiting news for malware distribution, but also from overseas, particularly cyber-attacks originating in China and Iran.
As such, unsupervised Internet browsing can result in problems ranging from simple security risks and productivity loss to legal liabilities or worse. However, many IT administrators are too busy or don’t have the resources to manage a Web monitoring solution. That’s where GFI Cloud’s Web Protection service comes in.
Accessible via an easy-to-use, Web-based management console, Web Protection offers extensive Web security that allows administrators to fully control security across distributed infrastructure. The new service also ensures that most malicious code found on the Internet is blocked at the point of request, stopping it from making it to the endpoint automatically.
As far as manual protection goes, administrators have URL filtering for full control over time-based browsing rules across more than 80 different categories of websites. This also helps keep users productive, while controlling bandwidth usage.
“Malware is growing more sophisticated by the day, and cybercriminals are targeting users from all directions – on social media sites, through unpatched software, in search engine results, the list goes on,” said Sergio Galindo, head of Global Product Management at GFI Software. “The security risks are increasing by the minute, yet SMB IT administrators are faced with the same tight budgets and thin resources. GFI Cloud helps administrators overcome these challenges by providing an affordable, easy-to-use, multi-layered approach to security that can be managed through a single, cloud-based console.”
