GFI Gets Rave Review for Cloud Communications Platform
By Erin Harrison Executive Editor, Cloud Computing
The trend of software vendors now providing cloud-based versions of their wares has suppliers of network management software making a slow transition; however, there are others who are “taking the plunge” to the cloud, which Brian Posey recently pointed out in a favorable review of GFI Software’s cloud offerings.
“At the same time, many other providers of systems management and security wares are taking the plunge to the cloud. One such example is GFI Software Development Ltd., which now offers GFI Cloud,” he explained.
GFI Cloud gives IT admins access within minutes to Web-based antivirus, asset tracking, network monitoring and remote control from one platform.
As Posey pointed out, GFI is one of many third parties that are now moving on-premises wares to the cloud. GFI touts the following key benefits of GFI Cloud:
· Sets up in 10 minutes or less
· Integrates antivirus, asset, network management and remote control
· Manages and protects your mobile workforce;
· Simplifies IT management
· Saves time, cuts costs and frees up IT resources
GFI Cloud services are priced at $12 per computer, per year, per service. Posey further noted that the setup process was a “breath of fresh air” in comparison to similar products.
“By the time I finished installing an agent onto each lab system, the managed computers were already showing up on the main screen of the GFI Cloud interface. One of the first things I noticed was one of the computers listed on this screen needed attention. I clicked on the listed computer, and it took me to another screen that detected an antivirus software conflict,” he said.
The software needed to remove his existing antivirus software before it could install Vipre Business, Posey added.
“The interface provided a button to click to remove the existing antivirus software. But as this was my primary desktop computer, I opted to ignore the error and keep my existing antivirus software because I was only using GFI Cloud for review purposes. This error was not triggered on the lab machines because none of those machines were using antivirus software,” he concluded in the review.
