GFI Software Reveals New VIPRE 6.0 SDK for Windows
By Allison Boccamazzo TMCnet Web Editor
GFI revealed this week its new VIPRE 6.0 SDK for Windows environments, which boasts a slew of new and advanced security features that software developers, PC utility providers and other security vendors can integrate into their product offerings or custom applications.
By taking advantage of the advanced VIPRE Antivirus engine, vendors can ultimately integrate anti-malware technology with minimal development time without having to risk compromising their customers’ desktop performance.
One new feature available in this release is VIPRE Easy Install, which allows PC utility providers to remove security software from their end users’ computers upon installation. Seeing how pre-installed AV solutions or anything left behind by previous AV programs can deter the installation process, VIPRE Easy Install directly addresses such problems by automatically detecting and uninstalling these programs without the need for user interaction.
For vendors who are looking to use multiple antivirus scanners in their offerings, VIPRE 6.0 SDK is also able to work in tandem, which provides maximum flexibility for ultimate user convenience.
"We've been using the VIPRE SDKs from GFI in our Fix-It Utilities software for some time and have found it to be a perfect way to efficiently integrate and offer best-in-class security services to our customers," explained Kevin Bromber, general manager at VCOM, a division of Avanquest Software (News - Alert) in a statement. "We can confidently plug advanced antivirus capabilities into our offerings without taking on the development headaches, and it works in harmony with our other programs."
VIPRE 6.0 SDK includes several new features, including: VIPRE Rapid Scan, which reduces scan times up to 90 percent with new high-speed scanning technology for quick, deep and scheduled scans; Rootkit engine to provide even greater protection and faster detections with automatic defining updates; Web filtering, which dramatically increases browsing performance with more expansive filtering of malicious URLs and phishing websites; complete Microsoft (News
- Alert) Windows compatibility; and VIPRE Easy Install, which eliminates slowness or potential crashes that can occur during installation by removing incompatible security software (this last feature is available for an additional fee).

Julian Waits also explained, “SDK is a supremely efficient way for developers to integrate proven technologies into their own products without investing a lot of time and resources.”
